Colourful Weekend
Posted in Church on 16. Mar, 2010
The 2010 Colour Conferences are half over. Last week, thousands of women from all over the world came to Sydney and packed the Sydney Entertainment Centre for three days of life changing messages and encounters with God. Right now, we’re in the middle of a two day break before getting ready for another Colour Conference, this time here at the Hills campus.
For the first conference, all of the first year guys stayed here at Hills in what was called Be the Change. What we did was we spent three days cleaning and making Hills campus ready for Colour this coming weekend. It was basically three full days of manual labor. I was in charge of a team whose job it was to clean up the car park under the chapel that is currently used for storage. I had a great team and we were able to get the car park cleaned up in a day and a half; after that we looked for jobs to do to help the rest of the teams to finish. It was a great three days of serving and sweating. And that, combined with a full day on Sunday, left me in a mini-coma on Sunday night that is starting to wear off.
All in all, though. It’s such an honour to be serving in these conferences. These conferences are literally changing the world and it’s so cool to be able to sow into something that affects people on a global level. I’m ready for Colour #2 and praying and expecting big things for the women who will be in attendance.

Hello Dustin,
The Lord has given us many confirmations since my husband and I began praying, together, about God calling us to Hillsong. It is no longer a mystery where the Lord is calling us but a puzzle that the Lord has commissioned us to put together. We are now in the beginning stages of planning, filling out paperwork and doing our “homework” about the culture. One thing that we are unsure about is the price of living. Other then the information that Hillsong provides on their website, there are specific questions we are searching answers for. Since you have already been down this avenue, any information you can gleam on this subject is greatly appreciated! What things are worth moving over with us (from Baltimore, Maryland) and what is a better buy when we arrive? For example, is it less expensive to ship our computer, bikes, bed and bath linens, etc. or is it a better to leave them here and purchase a new computer, bikes etc. over there? Just curious, who did you book your flight through? We already decided we will be selling 99% of our furniture (storing the rest) and only traveling with necessities but the more expensive items, such as a computer are still undecided. Did you find the web to be informative and able to help you in planning your move? Are there daily items that you have learned to live without due to the price of the item in Australia, are there items that you wish you would have brought with you but didn’t, are there items you brought with you and found you didn’t need? Thank you for any information you can gleam on these subjects! We believe the Lord is calling us to attend in January 2011 so the fun begins now, preparing and praying!
Sincerely,
SearchingTheLord
Hey!
I go to college with Dustin and saw your question.
My opinion is to bring what you can (weight wise, 50 lbs per suit case) and unless you REALLY need it- don’t ship anything.
Shipping is really expensive. You’d get a decent bike here for about 100 dollars.
For sure, bring your laptops. You’ll need them a lot!
Daily items like bed sheets, towels, etc. just buy them here.
If you’re not planning on shopping as soon as you get here, make you you take a couple towels, etc. just to help you get settled in at first.
You really don’t need any adapters other than one for your laptop, so don’t bother buying a ton of those. You’ll find that (duh!) everything you buy here.. appliances, etc. all have the right plugs haha
Check out the Hillsong International Leadership College facebook group, too. There’s always great information and people willing to talk to you about it. Plus, there’s so many people connecting on there before meeting in Australia.
Have an awesome trip, that’s so exciting that you’re coming! It’s life changing!!
Kylie
ps- Dustin, I totally read your blog
